Training & Community Awareness

Our operational goal is to assist the Community and other Rescue Groups.
Ongoing training in specialized technical areas in a controlled, safe environment ensures safe, proficient rescues.

Wilderness Survival training is a key component of the Ground SAR certification.
New members must demonstrate clearly that they can survive in the outdoors with minimal supplies.

Navigation skills that include map & compass and GPS training are provided.  Geo-caching events are planned throughout the year.

The Rope Rescue team trains year round with more focus during the fall and spring months. Outdoor training often takes place at Savona Bluffs and Roche Lake. Initial basic training is held at the KSAR hall with existing rope members helping to train new members as part of their own advancement to becoming a team leader.

Helicopter safety and hover exits are practiced for quick access to a search area or subject transport. This service is generously provided by Chilcotin Helicopters and members are trained to enter and exit while on unstable ground.

Patient packaging is vital to the successful conclusion of a first aid scenario. Members must have a Level I First Aid certification with transport.

Community Involvement ranges from assisting during large-scale emergency situations and fundraising events to building community awareness.
